Home - About  Us - Rooms - Tea Room - Reservations - Attractions In 1878, Dr. Lafontaine  Baldwin Powers set up practice in Port Hope at 127 Walton Street. He served the townspeople until the 1920's and was one of Port Hope's prominent citizens of the day. He donated land around his home for the building of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church (1904) and later for  the establishment of the Port Hope Lawn Bowling green at the rear of  the house. Dr L.B. Powers Public School, on Pine Street, was named  after him and his own children attended Port Hope High School, (now Dr. M.S. Hawkins Public School), in the 1890's. The original house,  which is believed the have been erected in 1852 was a square brick  building with a mansard roof. Visible in 1878 era photography of Walton Street is the original structure with an addition to the east  side of the house. It is believed to have been added by Dr. Powers as his office. The date of an addition at the rear, a tower on the  west side and the alteration to a hip roof is not precisely known,  but were evidently completed after 1878. Today this elegantly restored house is home to The Manor on Walton. It features a cozy English Tea Room, where we serve home cooked lunches and an  afternoon Tea selection. Our elegant Bed & Breakfast offers a  romantic get-away or a relaxing business visit; just the place to  unwind by the pond in our English Garden. Our home is entirely smoke free with outdoor smoking on the patio. Our cat Shadow is  friendly, but much to her disappointment we do not allow her in  guests areas.
